USA Boccia continues to strengthen its connection with George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia by appointing Dr. Brenda Wiggins as an Independent Director!
Dr. Wiggins currently serves as an Associate Professor and the Academic Program Co-Coordinator and Internship Coordinator for Recreation Management at George Mason University in the College of Education and Human Development.
As an Independent Director, she will serve on the Audit Committee ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable regulations of USA Boccia.
She is the fifth and most recent George Mason University affiliate to have joined the USA Bocca supporting staff in 2020 alongside Anthony McLean, a current graduate student assisting with the marketing and communications that joined the organization in August. This past summer, USA Boccia had the opportunity to maximize the brilliant minds of three George Mason Recreation Management and Sport Management students as they provided assistance with the High-Performance Plan.
Dr. Wiggins comes to USA Boccia with an awe-inspiring academic career. She obtained her A.B. at San Diego State University in Recreation Administration with a minor in English, M.A. from The University of Maryland in Therapeutic Recreation with an emphasis in Gerontology, and Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Tourism.
Dr. Wiggins’ research interests in inclusive recreation programming across the lifespan, and leisure interests among people with developmental and physical disabilities align perfectly with USA Boccia’s mission of providing athletes with physical disabilities the opportunity to compete and excel in the sport. Her extensive knowledge in the field will be invaluable as USA Boccia continues to dive deeper into new initiatives over the next calendar year.
