USA Background Check and SafeSport Screening
To ensure the safety of our players USA Boccia has adopted a new policy to reduce the risk of players becoming a victim of sexual or physical abuse. Any employee, volunteer, instructor, coach, referee, administrator or member who is formally authorized or appointed to a position of authority over, or will have frequent contact with athletes within a USA BOCCIA event or club activity must clear a USA BOCCIA approved background screening and successfully complete the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s training at a minimum of every two years (beginning in 2018). This information must be verified by USA BOCCIA within USA BOCCIA’s membership records. Any person serving in such capacity at a USA BOCCIA event or club activity who has, or is expected or planned to have, interactions with athletes in the course of their duties is considered to have routine access.
- No USA Boccia personnel will have access to the screening information as it is conducted by a paid third party provider – Sports Engine subsidiary.
- Once completed, the background check will last for 2 years and cover all USA Boccia Sanctioned Events.
- Only failed screenings will be privately notified.
USA Boccia uses Sports Engine through our membership website to complete a background check.. This makes it easy for our required members to complete their background check just by logging in to their SportEngine account.
**Note: You will need to log with your own SportsEngine account to complete this. If you do not have a SportsEngine account, you will need to first create one.
